RECOVERY - Depending on Procedure 

  • Gastroscopy – oral: patient needs to allow 10 minutes for numbness to dissipate before being offered a cold drink, with a hot drink some 10 minutes later 
  • Transnasal – patient can be offered a drink straightaway 
  • Flexible sigmoidoscopy – patient can dress and have a drink straightaway, if they wish 
  • Colonoscopy – patient needs to recover from sedation.  Observations, including Blood Pressure, Pulse, and Oxygen Levels are taken every 10 minutes 
  • Once patient feels able, they can sit up.  Once fully awake, the venflon cannula is removed.  The patient can then have a drink and get dressed
